Social Welfare and Cultural Research Foundation (SWCRF) was born in 2002. Registered under Societies Registration Act 1860, under FCRA 1976, with present validity period up to 2022, and under 12 A and 80 G of the Income Tax Act., it is a non-profit NGO actively working at present with poor and tribal communities of Odisha. Having worked with support and guidance from NABARD for a few years, the organization has a base of nearly 1500 SHGs and been credited with the Best NGO award in 2017 in the area of SHG-Bank linkage programme.

Vision

SWCRF aims at building a humane and peaceful India where every man and woman gets equal opportunity to grow and live a happy, prosperous and dignified life. It strives for a just society where no one suffers from hunger, discrimination and oppression, where women have equal rights and respect as men, and where voices of children and other weaker sections such as the old, the disabled and the gay are heard and treated with care and compassion.

Mission

The present focus of SWCRF is to work with rural poor, women, small farmers, farm workers and wage labourers for their economic uplift. The organization also intends to promote education and literacy among children in conformity with Right to Education Act 2009 and to do anything in its capacity for protection of the rights of children. We believe a healthy and pollution-free environment is essential to a healthy human life, and, therefore, we commit ourselves to conserving natural resources, while formulating and executing any development programmes. We subscribe to democratic values, hence, put in efforts towards inculcating the spirit of cooperation, participation and mutual respect among the groups with whom we work in various spheres.

Strategy

Presently SWCRF works in three districts- Mayurbhanj, Balasore and Keonjhar, and adopts such strategies as-

  • Promoting and assisting Self-help Groups for improving the socioeconomic status of the member-families through bank linkage and availing government assistance.
  • Helping farmers’ clubs for knowledge sharing, improved agricultural and off-farm activities and collective marketing of their produces
  • Undertaking concrete measures towards conserving and promoting natural resources such as rain water, ground water, forests, plantation
  • Generating awareness among different sections about literacy, good health, gender equality, organic farming and fair voting process
  • Undertaking skill development programmes for youths and women for their self-employment
